This blog is moving

Please write down the adress of the new blog: http://martin.gumucio.com Well ok, the address is the one thing that stays the same, but the rest is about to change!

wordpress.com has been a very good free blog host for the years i have had my blog here. As I see it they stand head and shoulders above the competition. Sadly I am feeling that the new version of wordpress that was released a while ago has not been rolled out smoothly, and frankly. Its 2008, when I can’t publish pictures to my own blog in a civilized manner, there is something wrong, and the gallery function has now been broken here for 3 weeks.

So buh bye wordpress.com, and hello self-hosted wordpress installation at dreamhost. We’ll see how it works, i know i have some readers that aren’t huge Dreamhost fans..

As I am writing this, the domain transfer request is already made. So according to my new host in 7 to 10 days (but really anytime in the next hours) this blog will be reborn…

See you on the other side!

(Note to gumucio.com users: The whole gumucio.com domain is being transferred, there may be a slight interruption in mail and related services. See http://start.gumucio.com for details)

There is lots to write, Aron turned 1 year old last week, there are pretty pictures of that, and I am scheduled for eye-surgery before the summer. Sadly i have absolutely no time to write, so here is a funny picture instead. More is to come i promise.

There is also this video of this years Preklin, the annual big party of the med-school students here in Uppsala. Pretty nice costumes this year…

Trapped in the closet

Which one is your favorite? Or most hated :)

FSC - Forest Stewardship Council

fsc_logotyp.jpg

What does the Brazilian rainforest, a bag of barbeque charcoal and the author J.K Rowling have in common? If you guessed FSC, you guessed right, the famous fantasy writer insisted that all of the latest Harry Potter books would be printed using FSC certified wood. You will similiarly see the logo on nearly every brand of charcoal here in Sweden, in short it is one of the biggest international standards that nobody has ever heard of.

Until today that is, above you see the notable swedish fotographer Mathias Klum. Acting to increase awareness for FSC.  Its the first campaign ever aimed at the public for FSC Sweden. Read up, and get informed!

Disorder in the court

Cousin Francesca sent me these, and they are just begging to be shared:

These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.

Le Fils de L’Epicier

Today we went to the movies together for the first time in over a year. Its not easy to take time for these things, even if you love cinema its just so much easier for one of us to stay home and take care of the little guy. There is this really nice cinema here that focuses on European quality movies. Pretty narrow stuff sometimes but so different and so good! It has been years and years since my last visit, but they are still going strong.

So the choice of the evening: Le Fils de L’Epicier A classic feel-good movie about a city boy who is forced to go back the countryside town of his childhood. There isn’t much to describe in words as the whole movie floats on spectacular photo of the Provence countryside. I loved it. Also we noticed two more movies we need to see there later My kid could paint that and Die Fälscher. Expect similar mini-reviews of them as well, when we get the time..

Winter sports

I have been home with Aron now for a few weeks and everything is going well. He has some more teeth, claps his hands together when we sing for him and is generally too cute to describe.

Here we have the little guy testing one of his christmas present - a sled - on the only day so far that had a little snow.100_1364.jpg

And here the daily activities had to end, on the last pics you can see Lego. The cat that knows no fear. The only cat i met that challenges big dogs head on, as well as approaching bicycles.. and approaching cars..  He has expressed interest in Aron before, namely when he is in his tram and his hand is dangling in view of cats on the ground ready to pounce…    Lego always means trouble, so after chasing him around with a stick we decided to call it a day.

New Line Cinema: The Hobbit

Just in time for Christmas this wonderful piece of news arrives: New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson will indeed produce movies on the Tolkien book The Hobbit. Not only one movie but two! It will be pretty exciting to see what they can come up with to fill two movies.

Growing up The Hobbit was one of my favourite childrens books, and its very exciting to see it being presented on the big screen.  Below you find an earlier version of Bilbo.
